I’ve had a mask obsession for as long as I’ve been into beauty. It’s the ultimate relaxation step in my skincare regimen that instantly gets me in a feel-good mood. My preferred choice of masks is usually, clay/charcoal or mud masks because they detoxify, refresh and brighten my skin, while also keeping the oiliness in my T-zone area at bay.

L’Oreal Paris came out with three different pure clay masks to target specific skin concerns.

I ended up purchasing the Pure-Clay Detox & Brighten mask.

Besides the main ingredient being charcoal, it also contains 3 pure clays – kaolinite, montmorillonite, and ghassoul – to deep cleanse, purify and brighten the skin. Activated Charcoal has amazing benefits for the skin, including drawing out bacteria, poisons, chemicals, dirt and other micro-particles to the surface of skin.

L’Oreal Pure-Clay Detox & Brighten Mask

Product Description and Claims:

“Introducing the first ever face masks from L’Oréal Paris. Each contains a powerful blend of three pure clays and its own unique natural ingredient to unmask your most beautiful skin. Find your perfect Clay Mask or multi-mask your way to the ultimate bespoke skincare routine.”

The L’Oreal Pure-Clay Detox & Brighten Mask is housed in a square glass jar containing 50ml of product. The lid is plastic with the L’Oreal logo strewn across the top. Upon application, it glides on smoothly and it’s easy to get a nice, even, thin layer without any patchiness. After application, I left it to develop for 10 minutes. Unlike other clay masks that take a while to remove all traces, this one removes easily, rinsed off with warm water and a cloth.

Instantly after use my skin felt softer, looked brighter and my pores looked clean. Not only that, but the effects seemed to last long after the mask had been removed. The best part? It didn’t dry the crap outta my skin either, which was quite surprising as clay masks have intense oil-absorption capabilities – so I think this should be suitable for all skin types aswell. I can’t wait to see what this mask will do to my skin after sustained weekly usage.

My final thoughts?

This clay mask is fantastic, easy to use and a breeze to rinse off. Would I repurchase it? Definitely! I’m very eager to try out the other two pure clay masks aswell.

The L’Oreal Pure-Clay Detox & Brighten Mask retails for R150/$12 for 50ml and is available from Clicks Pharmacies and Dis-Chem stores, online and in store.

If you reside outside of South Africa, you can purchase the L’Oreal Pure-Clay Detox & Brighten Mask directly from the L’Oreal Paris website or your nearest drugstore.
